Artichokes!
A while back, we mentioned our 12 miracle artichoke plants that had survived the winter. Eric and the Black Cat Farm crew did not know if they would bear fruit. But, voila, behold the beautiful purple artichokes emerging from the plants!
After the rains, nature handed us a gorgeous surprise.
Eric says that the tiny artichoke crop will go to Black Cat Farm-Table-Bistro for inclusion in a barigoule-style vinaigrette. We will probably serve the vinaigrette over roasted fish with our tomatoes from last year stewed with olives and bay leaves.
Bit by the artichoke bug, Eric is looking for artichoke seed to plant more.
Something to do with pea shoots
Other than cooking pea shoots in a saute, Eric says that you can place them on the bottom of soup bowls and pour soup on top of the greens. We suggest that you try a more delicate soup like miso soup or consomme to let the pea flavor shine.
