The Black Cat farm booth at the Boulder Farmers’ Market will include the following produce on September 7, 2013:
- Asian greens mix
- Bok choy
- Borlotti shell beans
- Braising mix
- Cucumbers (Mandurian, Shintokiwa, and lemon cucumbers; D’Borane, Little Leaf, and Orient Express pickling cucumbers)
- Fresh garbanzo beans
- Mesclun mix of baby lettuces
- Pak choy
- Perpetual spinach
- String beans (Golden Rocky, Royal Burgundy)
- Storage onions, loose and in 5-pound bags
- Summer squash
- Swiss chard
Non-produce items available will consist of chicken and turkey eggs, pork pate and terrine, smoked bacon, lardo, assorted Mulefoot pork cuts, and basil ice cream.
Cabbage has exited the building for the season. There is a small quantity of summer squash available for this week’s market but summer squash is on its way out.
What a deal!
Planting 3000 tomato plants has resulted in an impressive abundance of tomatoes. And the Black Cat farm is also experiencing very successful cucumber crops.
For the second weekend in a row, farmers’ market shoppers will be treated to a sale on tomatoes and cucumbers.
10 pound boxes of tomatoes will be available for $10 with each additional pound priced at $1/pound. Customers will be free to select the tomatoes that they want with no restrictions on the varieties available.
10 pound cases of cucumbers will be available for $7 with each additional pound priced at $1/pound. All cucumber varieties, not just pickling cucumbers, will be available. As with the tomato sale, customers are free to select the cucumbers that they want.
New to the market
Asian greens, such as Mizuna and Tatsoi, are back as are fresh garbanzo beans. This blog contains a simple and delicious recipe for fresh garbanzo bean ragout.
New to the market this year are fresh Borlotti shell beans. Borlotti beans are Italian in origin and can be eaten fresh or in dried form. They are creamy and delicious.
